Thomas H Joseph Jr. has been a active volunteer firefighter with the East Farmingdale Volunteer Fire Company since 1987. Before that he was a member of the Junior Firefighter Program starting in 1984.

As a volunteer firefighter, Thomas has been received certificates in Firefighter I, Heavy Rescue, Advanced Firefighting, among others. He was also an Emergency Medical Technician for six years.

For the past 13 years, Thomas has served as a Fire Prevention Coordinator. In this capacity, he has helped organize the fire company's fire prevention program, which includes teaching fire prevention techniques to school age children.

Most recently, Thomas has become a member of the fire company's recruitment committee. The committee's responsibilities entail formulating plans and executing programs to recruit people to volunteer for the fire fire company.
