Thomas has been a member of the Residents of East Farmingdale Civic Association since its inception in 2003. He has served as Sergeant at Arms 2005 until 2007. In 2007, Thomas became president, an office he currently still holds.

Thomas works closely on Quality of Life issues with the hamlet of East Farmingdale. He also works with the Town of Babylon on many of these issues that effect the residents of the East Farmingdale Community.

Thomas is also a member of a joint civic group, comprised of other civic associations within the Town of Babylon. This joint civic group works together on issues that could impact multiple hamlets within the Town of Babylon and neighboring communities.
